Dr. Richard A. Burridge, Dean of King's College in London, ordained minister of the Anglican Communion and world renowned Biblical scholar, receives the award for academic excellence.
Dr. Christian Schaller, professor of dogmatic theology at Regensburg, Germany, deputy director of the Pope Benedict XVI Institute in Regensburg, and editor of the collected works of Joseph Ratzinger (now being published) receives the award for excellence in theological publication.
These prizes are being given by the "Vatican Foundation" at the Pontifical Lateran University in Rome. Pope Benedict established the Vatican Foundation at the Lateran in 2010 to promote Catholic theology at the international level, mostly by granting scholarships for those seeking to earn a doctorate or to do post-doctoral work in Roman Catholic theology. This is the third year of the "Joseph Ratzinger Prizes for Excellence".
The Catholic Church wishes to encourage all members - lay and clergy alike - to study theology when and where ever possible. Ask Fr. Bob if you'd like some ideas on how to do that.
