Bishop Gregory says:
"The Council of Priests has recommended to me that the second collection on Christmas Day should be earmarked for the support of our Catholic Schools in the Diocese of Savannah. I have accepted their recommendation and pray that the entire diocese will see that Catholic education is a Mission of the Church. Benedict XVI has asked that we promote Catholic education especially during this Year of Faith. I commend the pastors and principals and the Department of Catholic Schools for the dedication and commitment that is so necessary for successful Catholic schools.
The ‘Catholic School Climate’ is something that you can feel the minute you walk into the building. I have been impressed with the dedication of the faculty and staff and the parents’ support organizations. Many of our schools have school boards which, I believe, are essential for the continued growth and excellence of our Catholic schools. Our schools must be first and foremost ‘Catholic’. We have ‘schools of excellence’ for which we can be very proud. We have some schools that are struggling financially. We have schools that are the best kept secret in the local community. We must share the ‘good news’ about our Catholic schools."
